Text-In
Context Proposal
I
would want my text -in context paper to be a take on the immigration crisis
that is the focus of Hamid’s novel, Exit
West, and its connection to the issues of immigration within the borders of
England, but specifically London. I want to spend some time talking about how
immigration affects economy, politics, and communities within London. I want another
portion of my paper to have a section dealing with Brexit and the connection
immigration had with the initialization of Brexit and how post-Brexit reactions
regard immigration now. I would want to focus on the reactions British natives
have on the immigration crisis, like Hamid does, and focus on statistics that
indicate how these people regard immigrants within their neighborhoods. I would
also want to mention details and statistics of those immigrating into London
and how they regard the reactions of natives and how personal it is to move
from one’s country to another where one is unwelcome. I do not know if I will have
enough space to this part in, but I would like to spend a little portion of my
paper going into details of immigration around the world. Focusing on
immigration statistics on the specific places that Hamid mentions briefly in
between his story of Saeed and Nadia. It would also be beneficial for my paper
to add in details into these specific countries that are seeing huge amounts of
emigration because it would show how turmoil or war, famine, and other severe
crisis’ lead to huge increases of upheaval within people and shows how the people
who are victims leaving their countries are as unhappy and unwilling to leave
and settle elsewhere, but have no other choice.
